No Way José is a salsa and jazz- inspired Latin ensemble based in South East Queensland, founded by Colombian pianist Juancho Manrique and Australian singer Amila Sargeant. The project is a space where Juancho's formal study of jazz, salsa, bolero and other Latin genres, and Amila's intuitive and powerfully fun vocal style, come together in an explosion of cultures and colour, perfect for dancing or for creating a rich, warm ambience for making social connections. No Way José combine the sensual sounds of Bossa with the irresistible rhythmic drive of Salsa and the rich harmonies of Latin American jazz in a show featuring some of Queensland’s finest Latin musicians. The group interweaves original works and unearthed classics from the mid to late 20th century Latin Americas, as well as Latin interpretations of Jazz standards and popular repertoire, bringing the energy and passion of Latin music to Australian audiences.
